Tonight's Millionaire Mentoring Call

Where have all the leaders gone?

It appears that every time you walk into a bookstore or newsstand there’s another greatest, revised, improved, better, best, top, finest, book on leadership that has just arrived. Everyone’s talking about leadership; on Twitter you get a million quotes a day from self proclaimed experts, on Facebook everyone’s self declared life coach. The well known’s like, Anthony Robbins, John Maxwell, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracey and now even the Donald, (just to name a few), are pumping out audios and seminars on a weekly basis for world to endure. One would think that living in the information age with twenty four, seven access to world wide experts, articles and blogs, the supply of great leaders would be abundant.

Yet to quote a recent Newsweek article entitled, “The Leadership Vacuum”  “There may never have been an era when people have talked so much about leadership but exhibited so little of it.” So where have all the leaders gone? Why is it that our school system is ailing, religious leaders are being deflocked, our government doesn’t seem to know how to get us out of the recession, let along impede us from getting here in the first place? And what about family leaders, where did he and she go? Why are dysfunctional families so common place that nightly shows and reality TV of the like, persuade us it’s ok and acceptable to live this way since everyone else is? I remember when reality was what was, and TV was something you watched (with trained actors and actresses, no less).

To borrow the lyrics from a Toby Keith song, when it comes to leadership, “we need a little less talk and a LOT more action” We need leaders who not only talk the talk, but will walk the walk. Talking time is over. What American needs right now, correction, what this world needs right now is a leadership revival, a leadership revolution. Are you ready? We’re going to make this country and our world a greater place through solid integrity based leadership and it’s time to get started. From the least of them to the most of them, we will change the world, one leader at a time. The Leadership Revolution starts now. If you’ve had enough talking and are ready to start walking, join me on this weekly mentoring call where real leadership principles are provided, and action is taken.

This Week's Millionaire Diet - Chew On This Daily

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help the small men by tearing down the big men.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You can not keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they
could and should do themselves…

~ ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Cultures don’t travel from the newest person in the group. They filter down from the leader. The leader is the straw that stirs the drink and must take responsibility for setting the culture of the organization. Cultures of overlooking, ignorance and apathy are the leaders enemies and must not be allowed to permeate the organization. Instead the leader must possess a powerful sense of mission and purpose, with values that run deep enough to create a strong culture. The leader must be able to communicate the vision in a way that it attracts and excites like minded members to the team.

Great advice for leaders

Many are called, few are chosen
Choose your team carefully

It takes a leader to attract a leader
It takes a leader to know a leader
It takes a leader to show a leader
It takes a leader to grow a leader

Pick them right and train them right. If you don’t pick them right, you’ll spend a lot of time training in vain. Remember; you can’t load a wagon from an empty wagon. The poor can’t help the poor (poor in spirit) Surround yourself with people who will pursue the cause without you.

As my friend and mentor, John C Maxwell taught me; those closest to the leader will determine the success of the leader. The opposite is also true. Those closest to the leader will determine the level of failure for the leader. People close to you make or break you. The outcome of your leadership, be it positive or negative depends on your ability to choose and develop those closest to you. Your goal is not to draw a following that results in a crowd but to develop leaders that become a movement.

I’ve coached good players and bad players.
I do a lot better when I have good players.

Give to Get

Give those you lead your vision, education and direction, then give them responsibility. Once you give them responsibility, don’t take it back. Poor leaders want to control the people they lead. This causes followers to become frustrated and they won’t develop. They then avoid responsibility altogether. Everyone knows it’s quicker and easier for the leader to do the job themselves than it is to teach others. But doing it yourself is only a short term solution and will never get you ahead in the long run.

Give those you lead authority as well. Giving people responsibility without the power of action, i.e. authority, will never empower them or help your cause. If your goal is to grow those you lead and create a movement or organization that progresses without you, then you must equip them with both responsibility and authority.

Remember; Leaders are like quarterbacks; there job is not to run the ball but to decide who to give the ball to. Give, and the rewards you get will be mind boggling.
